Case Study: Max Mroz — Finding the Right Fit the Second Time Around: Transferring to the University of South Florida

Max Mroz is the kind of player every coach wants in their lineup—big frame, big weapons, and an even bigger upside. A 6'4 powerhouse with a heavy serve and a forehand that can take over matches, Max initially committed to the University of Illinois, where he joined his brother, Will, for the spring season of 2026. He enjoyed the experience, competed well, and proved he could perform at a high level.

But sometimes the first stop isn't the final destination.

Despite the strong tennis environment, something wasn't clicking. The cold weather, the indoor-heavy season, and the overall lifestyle weren't what Max envisioned for his college experience. He wanted warmth. He wanted a training environment where he could be outdoors more, develop his game further, and be somewhere that matched both his personality and his goals.

That's where we stepped in.

Because Max lives in Bradenton, Florida, we knew exactly what type of program would fit him best: a warm-weather school close to home, with the resources, coaching, and culture to elevate a 12 UTR talent. Tampa was just an hour away—and USF was the obvious match.

We connected with Coach Ashley Fisher and emphasized what makes Max special: his 6'4 frame, huge serve, commanding forehand, and the raw potential to become a top-line college player with the right environment. Coach Fisher was intrigued enough to drive down to Boca Raton to watch Max compete in person.

Max didn't just play well—he dominated.

Big serves. First-ball aggression. Confidence. Presence. He overwhelmed opponents and showed exactly why he could thrive in a program like USF.

After that performance, the decision felt inevitable. Coach Fisher saw what we saw, and what Max himself believed: USF was the perfect fit.

Today, Max Mroz is officially on his way to the University of South Florida—a school that gives him exactly what he was searching for: sunshine, a strong tennis culture, and a place where his game can fully flourish.

For Max, this is more than a transfer.

It's the right environment, the right opportunity, and the right next chapter—and we're proud to have helped guide him there.
