Pedro Lemos, a talented tennis player from Brazil, came to us with a clear goal: play college tennis in the U.S. while receiving a strong education—and ideally, do it in a place that felt culturally familiar and easy to travel to from Brazil. With solid academics and a UTR that aligned with NCAA D2 and NAIA programs, we quickly zeroed in on schools in two of his favorite states: Florida and Texas.
Pedro had a soft spot for Florida—its climate, lifestyle, and proximity to home made it especially appealing. So we focused our outreach on strong academic schools with growing or stable tennis programs in those two states. After several conversations and offers from both Texas and Florida schools, one opportunity stood out above the rest—and it wasn’t just a tennis program. It was the beginning of something brand new.
Pedro committed to New College of Florida in Sarasota—an NAIA school launching its first-ever athletics program, including a brand-new men’s tennis team.
This wasn’t just a great academic school—it’s one of the top liberal arts institutions in the country. But what really sealed the deal was the vision: the school was building state-of-the-art athletic facilities, assembling a strong inaugural tennis roster, and had just hired an incredible coach coming from Liberty University, an NCAA D1 powerhouse. The coach brought with him high-level experience, a clear plan to build something special, and a passion that matched Pedro’s drive.
The opportunity to be part of a brand-new tennis program—at a prestigious school in a beautiful Florida location—was exactly the kind of unique fit Pedro was looking for.
