Helping Players Find Their Perfect Fit: Vanshdeep Chharrhan's Journey to Sterling College
When we first met Vanshdeep Chharrhan, we saw a story that was bigger than tennisâit was about rediscovery, resilience, and returning to a passion that never truly left. Vansh grew up in Canada, where tennis was a central part of his life. But like so many athletes, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted everything. He stopped playing, began working, and stepped away from the sport that once defined him. Yet, as time passed, he realized something was missing: tennis.
At the beginning of 2025, Vansh made a bold decision. He left Canada and came to Tampa, Florida to reignite his tennis journey. He began training at Partha's Academy in Tarpon Springsâa program we at Recruited are proud to be partnered with. That's when we stepped in to help.
We knew his path wasn't the traditional one. But Vansh's story and drive were unique, and we knew we had to find a college that would not just take him inâbut believe in him. Our focus became clear: we needed a school with a passionate coach, a tight-knit team environment, and a spot in the lineup where Vansh could grow and make an impact.
We arranged a handful of calls with programs across the countryâbut it was the call with Sterling College that changed everything. On that call, something clicked. Coach Nicole Salazar radiated passion for her team and the sport. It wasn't just what she saidâit was how she said it. Her commitment to building something special at Sterling was obvious.
Within moments, both Vansh, his mother, Partha, and I all felt it: this was the place. Within a few days, the decision was made. Vansh committed to Sterling College in Kansas, and he'll begin his college tennis journey there in Fall 2025.
We're incredibly proud of Vanshânot just for the comeback, but for the courage to bet on himself. His best tennis is ahead of him, and we can't wait to watch it unfold.
